Meet our 2012 Senior Models {Cottage Grove and Brookings, Oregon Senior Photographer}

I will be doing more extensive posts of our three 2012 Senior Models soon, but for now, here’s a little sneak peek for you.

This year, we have two Senior Models from Cottage Grove High School.

Sierra is very active in student government, and it would not surprise me one bit if she becomes President someday!

Lindy Lou is an amazing dancer who studies and teaches ballet. She is very involved in both the Eugene Youth Ballet and South Lane Ballet Academy.

We also have one Senior Model from Brookings-Harbor High School.

Melinda loves camping on the Chetco River and watching sunsets at the beach, and she has taken some pretty awesome sunset pictures!

Fun on Friday {Cottage Grove, Oregon Photographer}

There aren’t as many scheduled activities this weekend as there have been the last few weeks, but there’s still plenty to do! If you missed yesterday’s post, check that out to see where we went last weekend. Maybe that will give you a little inspiration for what to do with the family this weekend.

From 6-8pm tonight, check out the Art Walk happening at various merchants throughout downtown Cottage Grove. In addition to seeing all of the fabulous art, you can also enjoy appetizers, wine tasting & in-store specials from participating merchants.

Also tonight, catch the Cottage Grove Summer Band Concert from 7-9pm at the First Presbyterian Church. The concert will feature many local students who participated in the twice-weekly Summer Band Camp, as well as the Cottage Grove Intergenerational Summer Band. David and I both played in the Intergenerational Band last summer (while Paige enjoyed the music from an activity bouncer), but this year Paige was just too active so only David is involved – both playing and directing this year. Maybe next year all three of us will play!:)

If you need something to do next week, do your produce shopping at the Grower’s Market at Coiner Park from 4-8pm and check out the Concert in the Park to hear authentic, traditional jazz by Calamity Jazz starting at 6:30.

And if you need to escape from the heat, don’t forget to check out all of the great weekly events for kids of all ages at the Cottage Grove Public Library. From story time, to sing-alongs, to movies, they’ve got something for everyone.

Three on Thursday {Cottage Grove, Oregon Photographer}

1) I can’t remember the last time I spent a weekend *not* doing anything work related. Until this past weekend. David and I both set aside all work related activities and spent the weekend doing fun things as a family. Saturday we spent the afternoon at the Butterfly Pavillion in Elkton. If you’ve never been there, it’s worth a trip. It’s not huge, but it’s a pretty neat place.

2) On Sunday we drove out past Dorena, up into the woods, and took a couple of short hikes to Moon Falls and Spirit Falls. Again, if you haven’t been there, it’s worth the drive. It took us somewhere around an hour to get to Moon Falls, and we hit Spirit Falls on our way back down. The hikes are pretty short, and the Moon Falls hike is quite easy. Spirit Falls is a little tougher on the way back because you’re climbing back up a fairly steep grade in a couple of spots, but it’s still not bad since most of the trail is pretty flat.

3) We are looking for more cool places to go (preferably within about an hour from Cottage Grove), so if you have any suggestions, please post them in the comments!

Celebrate Summer! Beach & Portland Portrait Opportunities

The end of Summer is fast approaching and the long days and warm nights will soon be gone again. We have two great opportunities for you to take advantage of the weather while it lasts!

1 – This is your LAST CHANCE to get in on my beach portrait day in Florence! This Saturday, July 30 I will be in Florence all day for portraits on the beach. This is the perfect way to get your Family Portraits done for your holiday cards, have something totally different for your Senior Portraits, or get beautiful Engagement Portraits to make a custom guest book for your wedding. Contact me right away to reserve your spot before the day gets completely booked! [541.556.1832 or kim@klarsenphotography.com]

2 – If you follow us on Facebook, you might have seen my crazy idea to take a small group of Seniors to Portland for the day to get awesome Senior Portraits around the city. I LOVE Portland and am so excited to spend a day there photographing a group of friends at some amazing locations! This Senior Portrait Experience will only be available to one small group of Seniors from the Class of 2012 so only you and your closest friends will have pictures like these! We will do group and individual portraits at tons of different locations, so you’ll have plenty of variety to choose from to make sure your portraits look different from those your friends choose. The session has to happen by August 24, though, so you have to act quickly! If this sounds like an opportunity you and your friends would love, please contact me right away for more details! I can’t wait to hear from you!

Portland at Twilight {Portland, Oregon Photographer}

For those of you who don’t know, I lived near Portland for about 5 years before moving to the Eugene area. The entire time I lived there, I always wanted to photograph the city and bridge lights reflecting on the river and I just never did. Last week, at the Professional Photographers of Oregon Summer School, I finally got my chance to do just that.

Here are a few of my favorites:
