Fun on Friday {Cottage Grove, Oregon Photographer}

It’s another busy weekend here in Cottage Grove! There are lots of events going on if you need something to do, or you can just head out to your favorite park, river or lake spot, or take a hike with the family.

Saturday, from 8am until dark, you can visit the South Lane Cruisers Car Show at Coiner Park.

If you just can’t get enough of the cars, check out the South Lane Cruise from 6-8pm, followed by a dance from 8:30-11:30 featuring the Hi-Fi Ramblers and the ’56 Pontiac Band.

When you are done looking at the cars, or before you make it there, check out the 3rd Annual Town & Country Garden Tour from 8am – 3pm. This event is a fundraiser for South Lane Mental Health and tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children age 2-12.

On Saturday afternoon, from noon until 4pm, taste a variety of chili and vote for your favorite at the Chili Cook-off in Trailhead Park.

If you need something to do next week, do your produce shopping at the Grower’s Market at Coiner Park from 4-8pm and check out the Concert in the Park to hear “Swamp Rock” by Etouffee starting at 6:30.

And if you need to escape from the heat, don’t forget to check out all of the great weekly events for kids of all ages at the Cottage Grove Public Library. From story time, to sing-alongs, to movies, they’ve got something for everyone.

Here’s a little something that you might see if you do head outside into the heat this weekend. This photograph was captured last summer on Bohemia Mountain.

Three on Thursday {Cottage Grove, Oregon Photographer}

1. I spent Monday and Tuesday at the Professional Photographers of Oregon Summer School and entered 4 of my favorite prints in the print critique. The summer print critique is not a formal print competition, but is a great way to see how your prints will do at the annual conference in February. This was my first time entering prints at a PPO event, so I didn’t know exactly what the judges would be looking for. The judges felt that with some very minor changes, at least two of my prints would be “merit” prints (scoring 80 or above). As they were, I scored 76, 77, and two 78s, which I think was pretty good for my first time entering, or even seeing the judging for print competition/critique. Now I know what I need to change for next time, and I also know how important the title is!

2. While in Portland, I visited ProPhoto Supply and bought myself a new 24-70 2.8L lens. I had planned on waiting until all of my old lenses sold, but I am down to the last one, and I just couldn’t help myself. I have only used it for a few shots in the last day and a half since I bought it, but it is sooooo nice!

3. I have regularly given some of my event pictures to the Cottage Grove Sentinel when they are unable to get a picture of a particular event, but I think this is the first time they have printed one as a full half-page!

Aiden’s 7 month portraits {Brookings, Oregon Baby Photographer}

I’m still trying to get caught up on blogging old sessions, so today I am sharing a few portraits from a short outdoor session with my great-nephew Aiden back in May.  These were taken during a short visit to Brookings to see my family.  We took Aiden and Paige out to my parents’ front yard with a quilt and a basket of apples to keep them occupied.  It kept Aiden occupied, but Paige was much more interested in running around the yard, so we didn’t get very many of the two of them together.  Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to posting some of the two of them…

Cottage Theatre Melodrama Camp {Cottage Grove, Oregon Theatre Photographer}

This weekend David and I had the chance to work with the Cottage Theatre Melodrama Camp in their production of Pirates in the Pantry (an original melodrama by Cottage Grove’s own K.K. Mills).  David took video of the production and will be creating DVDs for those who ordered them.  I took a few pictures of parts of the performance, lots of group shots, and individual portraits of each student involved in the show.

For those who were involved in the production, if you are interested in purchasing individual portraits, they can be ordered through my event gallery website (I will be at the Professional Photographers of Oregon Summer School for the next two days, so pictures will not be available on my gallery website until after Wednesday, July 20.) or you can contact me directly.  If you would like to order a portrait package and did not already do so on Saturday, please contact me directly to place your order.  If you would like to order a copy of the DVD, please contact David to place your order.

Fun on Friday {Cottage Grove, Oregon Photographer}

This weekend is the 52nd annual Bohemia Mining Days in Cottage Grove, so there are plenty of activities to keep you busy! Coiner Park has been transformed into a mining camp for the weekend, and there is the parade on Saturday morning, of course. There are more activities and events than I can list here, so for full details about all of the BMD events, activities, food venues, musical performances, and theatre performances, check out their official website.

Visit the Cottage Grove Airport this weekend to see antique & classic planes at the Oregon Antique & Classic Aircraft Club Biennial Fly-In.

This weekend is also the 6th annual Tayberry Jam (AKA Reggae on the Mountain) on Cougar Mountain in Saginaw.

On Sunday, the Saginaw Vineyard is having their Midsummer Celebration & Car Show/Poker Run. It’s free admission and runs from 11am-6pm.

If you need something to do next week, do your produce shopping at the Grower’s Market at Coiner Park from 4-8pm and check out the Concert in the Park to hear world music by the Hanz Araki Band starting at 6:30.

And if you need to escape from the heat, don’t forget to check out all of the great weekly events for kids of all ages at the Cottage Grove Public Library. From story time, to sing-alongs, to movies, they’ve got something for everyone.

In honor of Bohemia Mining Days, here is a photograph I took last summer when we went camping at Musick Cabin on Bohemia Mountain. This was from one of the streams found on a trail down below the mountain.
